Wi-Fi Not Connecting
Nanit Baby Monitor (Camera)
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Nanit not connecting to Wi-Fi is usually caused by the camera being set up on a 5 GHz network (Nanit requires 2.4 GHz), an incorrect password, or the router being too far away. Nanit cameras only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi — they will not connect to a 5 GHz band.
Affected Models
- Nanit Pro
- Nanit Plus
- Nanit Pro Complete Monitoring System
Common Causes
- Phone or router set to 5 GHz band during setup — Nanit requires 2.4 GHz
- Wi-Fi password entered incorrectly — passwords are case-sensitive
- Router too far from the camera — weak signal prevents a reliable connection
- Home Wi-Fi network changed after Nanit was set up — camera still has old credentials
- Router firewall blocking the Nanit's cloud connection
How to Fix It
-
Confirm your Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz (not 5 GHz only).
Nanit cameras only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi — they cannot connect to 5 GHz networks. If your router broadcasts separate 2.4 and 5 GHz SSIDs, connect to the 2.4 GHz network during Nanit setup. If your router uses a single merged SSID, check router settings to ensure 2.4 GHz is enabled.
-
Re-enter the Wi-Fi credentials in the Nanit app.
Open the Nanit app → tap the camera → Settings → Wi-Fi Network → Reconnect. Enter the exact Wi-Fi password, paying attention to uppercase, lowercase, and special characters. The password is case-sensitive.
-
Move the router or camera closer together during setup.
Place the Nanit camera within 5 metres of the router during the initial setup. Once connected successfully, move it to the nursery. If the signal at the nursery location is weak, a Wi-Fi extender or mesh node near the nursery improves reliability.
-
Factory reset the Nanit camera.
Press and hold the reset button on the bottom of the Nanit camera for 10 seconds until the LED changes. Then reopen the Nanit app and set up the camera from scratch. This clears old Wi-Fi credentials and starts fresh.
-
Check that 2.4 GHz is enabled on your router.
Log into your router admin page (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1). Find the Wireless settings and confirm 2.4 GHz radio is enabled. Some newer routers default to Wi-Fi 6 (6 GHz) configurations that disable 2.4 GHz — ensure it is on.
When to Call a Professional
If the Nanit successfully connects to Wi-Fi but shows as offline in the app, the camera may be blocked by a router firewall. Check your router's client isolation or firewall settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nanit work on hotel or apartment Wi-Fi?
Nanit works on any standard WPA2 home Wi-Fi network. However, it does not work on enterprise networks (common in hotels and offices) that use a separate login page or WPA Enterprise authentication. Most apartment Wi-Fi (where each unit has its own router) works fine.
Can I use Nanit with a mobile hotspot?
Yes — Nanit will connect to a mobile hotspot that broadcasts a 2.4 GHz network. Data usage is approximately 300–500 MB per hour of HD streaming. Unlimited data plans are recommended for continuous hotspot use.
