Base Station Offline

Owlet Baby Monitor (Smart Sock)

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Base Station Offline means the Owlet base station lost its connection to Wi-Fi or to the Owlet app. The sock may still be monitoring, but you will not receive notifications on your phone. Check your Wi-Fi and restart the base station.

Affected Models

  • Owlet Smart Sock 3
  • Owlet Dream Sock
  • Owlet Smart Sock 2

Common Causes

  • Wi-Fi network went down or router restarted
  • Base station too far from the Wi-Fi router
  • Wi-Fi password changed and base station has the old one
  • Base station firmware needs updating
  • Internet outage affecting the cloud connection

How to Fix It

  1. Check that your Wi-Fi is working — try loading a website on your phone.

If Wi-Fi is down, the base station cannot connect. Restart your router and wait for it to come back online.

  2. Unplug the base station for 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

A restart often reconnects the base station to Wi-Fi.

  3. Move the base station closer to the Wi-Fi router.

Thick walls and distance weaken the Wi-Fi signal. The base station should have a strong signal.

  4. Re-setup the base station in the Owlet app if it will not reconnect.

Open the Owlet app > Devices > Base Station > Setup. Follow the prompts to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the sock still monitor when the base station is offline?

The sock still collects readings, but you will not get notifications on your phone. The base station's local alarm still works via Bluetooth if it is plugged in and within range.

Does the Owlet need Wi-Fi to work?

The base station alarm works without Wi-Fi (via Bluetooth to the sock). But phone notifications, history, and the app require Wi-Fi and internet.
