Yellow Notification
Owlet Baby Monitor (Smart Sock)
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
A yellow notification means the Owlet sock is not getting a clear reading. This is usually a positioning issue — the sock has shifted on the baby's foot. Reposition the sock so the sensor sits on top of the foot.
Affected Models
- Owlet Smart Sock 3
- Owlet Dream Sock
- Owlet Smart Sock 2
Common Causes
- Sock shifted position during baby's movement
- Sock is too loose for the baby's foot
- Baby's foot is too cold (poor circulation affects readings)
- Ambient light interfering with the sensor
- Sock fabric is bunched up over the sensor
How to Fix It
-
Reposition the sock — sensor window over the top of the foot.
The green sensor light should sit on top of the foot, aligned with the pinky toe side. Smooth out any bunched fabric.
-
Tighten the sock if it is loose.
The sock should be snug. If it moves easily when you tug it, try the next size down or adjust the velcro.
-
Warm cold feet with a light blanket.
Cold feet have reduced blood flow, making it harder for the sensor to read. A sleep sack or light blanket over the feet can help.
-
Make sure no direct light is hitting the sensor.
Bright room light or sunlight can interfere with the optical sensor. Darken the room or cover the sock with a sleep sack.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a yellow notification dangerous?
No. Yellow means the sock cannot get a clear reading — it is not a health alert. It is telling you to reposition the sock, not that something is wrong with your baby.
Why does yellow happen more at night?
Babies move in their sleep, shifting the sock. Cold feet during sleep also reduce blood flow, making readings harder.
