Screen Flickering / Lines

VTech Baby Monitor

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Screen flickering on the VTech parent unit can be caused by interference, a loose connection, or a failing display. Try moving the unit away from other electronics and checking the battery.

Affected Models

  • VTech VM5255
  • VTech VM5263
  • VTech VM350
  • VTech VM901

Common Causes

  • Electromagnetic interference from nearby electronics
  • Low battery causing voltage fluctuations
  • LCD ribbon cable loose inside the unit
  • Display backlight failing
  • Power adapter voltage unstable

How to Fix It

  1. Move the parent unit away from other electronics.

Phones, tablets, and laptops can cause screen interference. Keep at least 1 foot of distance.

  2. Plug in the parent unit and charge fully.

Low battery can cause screen flickering as voltage drops.

  3. Try a different power adapter.

A faulty adapter can cause voltage fluctuations that make the screen flicker.

  4. If persistent: the LCD may be failing.

Screens degrade over time. If the flickering worsens, the unit may need replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does screen flickering affect the camera?

No. The camera and parent unit are separate devices. A flickering screen is a parent unit issue only.

Can I replace the screen?

VTech does not sell replacement screens. If the screen has failed, the parent unit needs to be replaced.
