Alarm Not Working / Alarm Not Going Off

Bose Bluetooth Speaker

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

A Bose speaker alarm that fails to go off is usually caused by the speaker losing its Wi-Fi connection overnight, which prevents the alarm from triggering. Confirm the speaker is connected to Wi-Fi, verify the alarm is still set in the Bose Music app, and ensure the app has notification permissions.

Affected Models

  • Bose Portable Smart Speaker
  • Bose Home Speaker 300
  • Bose Home Speaker 500
  • Bose Soundbar 300
  • Bose Soundbar 700

Common Causes

  • Speaker lost Wi-Fi connection overnight — alarm service requires an active connection
  • Alarm accidentally deleted or not saved in the Bose Music app
  • App notification permissions revoked — alarm trigger blocked by phone
  • Speaker in a low-power state that delays the alarm
  • Time zone set incorrectly in the Bose Music app

How to Fix It

  1. Verify the alarm is set and saved in the Bose Music app.

Open the Bose Music app, select your speaker, and go to Alarms. Confirm the alarm is listed, the time is correct, and the days are selected. Some users set an alarm but do not tap Save — it does not persist without saving.

  2. Check the speaker's Wi-Fi connection.

Bose smart speaker alarms are cloud-delivered and require an active internet connection. In the Bose Music app, confirm the speaker shows as Connected. If the speaker lost Wi-Fi overnight, reconnect it and re-test the alarm.

  3. Verify the time zone setting.

Go to Bose Music app > Settings > Speaker Settings > Time Zone. An incorrect time zone causes the alarm to fire at the wrong local time or not at all. Set the time zone to match your current location.

  4. Check notification permissions for the Bose Music app.

On your phone, go to Settings > Apps > Bose Music > Notifications and ensure notifications are enabled. On some Android versions, restricting background activity for the app can prevent the alarm from triggering correctly.

  5. Test with a 2-minute alarm.

Set a test alarm 2 minutes in the future in the Bose Music app. Stay near the speaker and ensure it is connected to Wi-Fi. If the test alarm fires correctly, the setup is working — the original failure was likely a temporary Wi-Fi dropout.

When to Call a Professional

Alarm functionality is software-based — no hardware repair is needed. If alarms consistently fail after verifying Wi-Fi and app settings, contact Bose support to check the speaker firmware.
