EQ / Bass Settings Not Saving
Bose Bluetooth Speaker
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Bose EQ settings not saving usually means the Bose Music app did not sync the setting to the speaker before you disconnected. After changing EQ in the app, wait 10–15 seconds before turning off the speaker to allow the settings to write to the device's memory.
Affected Models
- Bose SoundLink Flex
- Bose SoundLink Max
- Bose Portable Smart Speaker
- Bose Home Speaker 500
- All Bose speakers with EQ settings in the Bose Music app
Common Causes
- Speaker powered off or Bluetooth disconnected before EQ change was written to the speaker's memory
- Bose Music app lost connection during EQ save — change was not confirmed by the speaker
- EQ settings stored per Bluetooth device — settings may differ on different paired phones
- Factory reset or firmware update cleared saved EQ preferences
- App showing incorrect cached EQ values — speaker has different values than the app displays
How to Fix It
-
Wait after changing EQ before disconnecting.
Open the Bose Music app, change the EQ settings, and then wait 15–30 seconds while the speaker is still connected and powered on. The app needs time to sync the new EQ values to the speaker's non-volatile memory. Disconnecting Bluetooth or powering off the speaker immediately after changing EQ can interrupt the save process.
-
Confirm the EQ setting in the app after reconnecting.
After turning the speaker back on and reconnecting, open the Bose Music app and check the EQ settings. If the saved settings are displayed correctly in the app after reconnecting, the settings are saved — the app just needs to reconnect to read them from the speaker. If the settings show the previous values, the save did not complete and you need to set them again.
-
Update the Bose Music app and speaker firmware.
Open the Bose Music app → your speaker → Settings → Software updates. Install any available firmware update for the speaker. Also update the Bose Music app from the App Store or Google Play — firmware updates frequently fix EQ save reliability bugs.
-
Check whether EQ settings are per-device.
Some Bose speakers store EQ settings per paired device — the EQ you set when connected to your phone may differ from the EQ when connected to your laptop. If the EQ always resets when you connect from a specific device, that device has different saved EQ values. Set the EQ on each device you use.
-
Reset the speaker and re-pair.
Hold the Power button for 10 seconds until you hear the power-off tone, then release — this is the Bose factory reset procedure (exact steps vary by model — check your manual). After the reset, re-pair the speaker via the Bose Music app and configure your EQ settings again. Following the reset, wait 30 seconds after setting EQ before disconnecting.
When to Call a Professional
EQ settings are managed by the Bose Music app and speaker firmware. If settings consistently reset despite waiting for sync, contact Bose support.
