Party Mode Not Working
Bose Bluetooth Speaker
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Bose Party Mode or SimpleSync not working is usually caused by the speakers running different firmware versions, the Bose Music app not being updated, or both speakers not being registered to the same Bose account. Both speakers must be on the same Wi-Fi network for SimpleSync to work on Wi-Fi enabled models.
Affected Models
- Bose SoundLink Flex (SimpleSync)
- Bose SoundLink Max (SimpleSync)
- Bose SoundLink Revolve+ (Party / Stereo Mode)
- Bose Portable Smart Speaker (SimpleSync)
- Bose Home Speaker 300 / 500
Common Causes
- Different firmware versions on the two speakers — they must be on the same version
- Speakers registered to different Bose accounts — SimpleSync requires same account
- Both speakers not connected to the same Wi-Fi network (for Wi-Fi enabled models)
- Bluetooth range exceeded between the two speakers
- Bose Music app not updated — older app versions lose compatibility with new speaker firmware
How to Fix It
-
Update both speakers to the latest firmware.
Open the Bose Music app → tap each speaker → Settings → About → check the firmware version. If one is on a different version, update it. SimpleSync and Party Mode require matching firmware. Update both before retrying.
-
Confirm both speakers are registered to the same Bose account.
In the Bose Music app, both speakers should appear on the same account home screen. If one is registered to a different account, you cannot create a SimpleSync group. Sign in with the same account on a second phone if needed to reassign the speaker.
-
Connect both speakers to the same Wi-Fi network (Wi-Fi models).
Bose Home Speakers and Portable Smart Speakers require both units to be on the same Wi-Fi network for SimpleSync to work. Check that neither speaker has drifted to a different network or is disconnected from Wi-Fi.
-
Put both speakers close together during initial pairing.
When first setting up Party Mode or SimpleSync, place both speakers within 1 metre of each other and of your phone. Once the group is established, you can move them apart. Trying to pair from across the house can fail.
-
Force-close the Bose Music app and retry from scratch.
Close the app completely, reopen it, and go to your speaker → tap the speaker icon at the bottom of the screen → look for the SimpleSync or Party Mode icon. Tap it and follow the prompts with both speakers powered on and nearby.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Party Mode and Stereo Mode on Bose speakers?
Party Mode plays the same audio on both speakers simultaneously. Stereo Mode splits the audio so one speaker plays the left channel and the other plays the right channel, creating a wider stereo field. Both are available on supported Bose model pairs.
Can I connect two different Bose speaker models in Party Mode?
Some Bose models support cross-model SimpleSync groups via the Bose Music app — for example, a SoundLink Flex paired with a Portable Smart Speaker. Not all combinations are supported. Check the Bose website for the list of SimpleSync-compatible models.
