Graph Not Displaying / Blank Graph Screen

Casio Casio Calculator

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

A Casio graphing calculator showing a blank graph screen is most often caused by a view window (V-Window) set to a range where the function is not visible. Reset the view window to the default (Zoom > Auto or pressing SHIFT + F3 > Initial) and the graph should appear.

Affected Models

  • Casio fx-9750GIII
  • Casio fx-9860GIII
  • Casio fx-CG50
  • Casio fx-CG500
  • All Casio graphing calculator models

Common Causes

  • V-Window (view window) set to a range that does not include the function's output range
  • Function selected to not be graphed — draw toggle turned off
  • Graph type mismatch — equation entered in wrong format for selected graph type
  • All Y= slots empty — nothing to graph
  • View window Xmin and Xmax reversed (Xmin > Xmax)

How to Fix It

  1. Reset the View Window to initial settings.

Press SHIFT + F3 (V-Window) then press F3 (STD) to set the standard view window. Alternatively, use ZOOM > Initial (or Zoom Auto) to reset the graphing area to include the most common range. If the graph appears after this, the previous V-Window was set outside the function's visible range.

  2. Check that the function is selected for drawing.

In the Graph mode function list, each Y= entry has a highlight toggle. Scroll to your function and press F1 (Sel) to toggle whether it is selected for graphing. If the function is not highlighted (selected), pressing DRAW will show a blank screen even if the equation is entered correctly.

  3. Verify the function is entered correctly.

Press MENU > Graph and check the Y1 entry. The function should be entered as Y1 = followed by the expression using the calculator's specific syntax. For example: Y1 = 3X^2 + 2X - 1 A syntax error in the function entry causes the graph to not plot even with correct window settings.

  4. Use Zoom Auto to fit the graph.

On the Casio fx-9750 or fx-CG50, after pressing DRAW, press SHIFT + F2 (Zoom) > F5 (Auto) or F6 (Zoom Auto). This automatically adjusts the V-Window to fit the function into the screen. Use this whenever you are unsure of the appropriate range for a new function.

  5. Clear any conflicting graphs in the function list.

Scroll through all Y= entries in Graph mode. If multiple functions are selected (highlighted), one may be outside the viewing area while another is visible. Deselect all functions with F2 (Del-A to delete all) and re-enter only the function you want to graph.

When to Call a Professional

No professional service is needed for a graph display issue — it is always a settings or input problem on Casio graphing calculators.
