ERR:ARCHIVED

Texas Instruments TI-84 Calculator

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

ERR:ARCHIVED means you tried to use a variable, list, or program that has been moved to archive memory. Archived items are stored but not accessible for use. Unarchive it: 2nd > MEM > Mem Mgmt > select the item > press ENTER to unarchive.

Affected Models

  • TI-84 Plus
  • TI-84 Plus CE
  • TI-84 Plus Silver Edition
  • TI-83 Plus

Common Causes

  • Program or list was archived to save RAM
  • App or program automatically archived after a RAM reset
  • Teacher archived items to prevent use during a test
  • Memory cleanup archived items

How to Fix It

  1. Unarchive the item.

2nd > MEM > Mem Mgmt/Del > select the type (Program, List, etc.). Find the item — an asterisk (*) means archived. Press ENTER to toggle archive/unarchive.

  2. If RAM is too full to unarchive: delete something else first.

Unarchiving moves the item from archive to RAM. If RAM is full, you need to delete or archive other items first.

  3. Check for a RAM reset.

If the calculator was reset, some items may have been auto-archived. Unarchive the ones you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between RAM and archive?

RAM: fast, limited (about 24KB on TI-84 Plus), items are immediately usable. Archive: larger (about 1.5MB), items are stored but must be unarchived to use.

Can teachers lock the archive?

Teachers can use TI-Connect software to manage what is archived and locked. Some test modes also restrict archive access.
