BUSY means the camera is processing data — writing images to the card, processing noise reduction, or performing sensor cleaning. This is normal during burst shooting or long-exposure noise reduction. Wait for the card access light to stop, or use a faster memory card.

Common Causes
- Writing a burst of images to a slow memory card
- Long-exposure noise reduction processing (takes as long as the exposure)

How to Fix It

Wait for the card access light to stop blinking.
Do not turn off the camera while the light blinks — this can corrupt the card. Once the light stops, the camera is ready.

Use a faster memory card.
Slow cards cause longer BUSY times. For burst shooting, use UHS-II SD cards or CFexpress (on supported models).

Disable Long Exposure Noise Reduction if you do not need it.
Long exposure NR takes a second dark frame after every long exposure. A 30-second exposure is followed by 30 seconds of BUSY while NR processes. Disable in Menu > Shooting > Long exp. noise reduction.

Shoot in JPEG instead of RAW for faster write times.
RAW files are 5-10x larger than JPEGs. Switching to JPEG dramatically reduces BUSY time between bursts.

Is BUSY an error?
No. BUSY is normal — the camera is working. It is not an error code. It only becomes a problem if the camera stays BUSY indefinitely (which could indicate a card issue).
Can I turn off the camera while it says BUSY?
You should not. The camera is writing data to the card. Turning it off mid-write can corrupt the card and lose images.
