Battery Error

Fujifilm Camera

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

A Fujifilm Battery Error usually means the battery isn't seated properly, is too cold to deliver power, or is at the end of its life. Remove and reinsert the battery firmly, then try again.

Affected Models

  • Fujifilm X-T5
  • Fujifilm X-T4
  • Fujifilm X-S20
  • Fujifilm X100VI
  • Fujifilm X-E4
  • Fujifilm GFX 50S II

Common Causes

  • Battery not seated correctly in the compartment
  • Battery contacts dirty or corroded
  • Battery too cold (below 0°C)
  • Genuine battery replaced with a third-party battery not recognised by the camera
  • Battery fully depleted and needs a charge
  • Battery at end of life and no longer holding charge

How to Fix It

  1. Remove and firmly reinsert the battery.

Open the battery compartment, remove the battery, and reinsert it until it clicks firmly into place. A slightly misaligned battery loses contact with the terminals.

  2. Clean the battery contacts.

Use a dry cotton bud to clean the gold contacts on both the battery and inside the camera compartment. Oxidised contacts cause intermittent battery errors.

  3. Charge the battery fully.

A Fujifilm NP-W235 or equivalent battery should charge for approximately 120 minutes from empty. Use the genuine Fujifilm charger or a reputable third-party charger.

  4. Warm the battery if shooting in cold conditions.

LiPo batteries struggle below 0°C. Keep a spare battery in an inside pocket and swap when the camera's battery gets too cold.

  5. Try a different battery.

If the battery is old, it may no longer hold charge. Fujifilm recommends replacing batteries after 300 charge cycles or when performance degrades noticeably.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use third-party batteries in a Fujifilm camera?

Yes, but with caution. High-quality third-party NP-W235 or NP-W126S batteries from reputable brands (Patona, Wasabi) work well. Cheap unbranded batteries may not communicate correctly with the camera, causing Battery Error. Genuine Fujifilm batteries are recommended for reliability.
