Not Turning On
Fujifilm Camera
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
A Fujifilm camera that will not turn on is almost always caused by a flat or incorrectly inserted battery. Charge the battery for at least 2 hours in a dedicated charger (not in-camera USB charging), reinsert it with the correct polarity, and check the battery door is fully closed before pressing the power switch.
Affected Models
- Fujifilm X-T4
- Fujifilm X-T5
- Fujifilm X-T30 II
- Fujifilm X-S10
- Fujifilm X-H2
- Fujifilm X-H2S
- Fujifilm X100VI
Common Causes
- Battery is fully discharged
- Battery is inserted with incorrect polarity
- Battery door is not fully closed
- Battery terminals or camera contacts are dirty or corroded
- Very cold temperature has reduced battery capacity below startup threshold
How to Fix It
-
Remove the battery and charge it for 2 hours using a dedicated wall charger or a confirmed-working USB-C cable. Check the charge indicator on the charger to confirm charging is active.
In-camera USB charging is slower and less reliable than a dedicated external charger. If the battery has been sitting flat for months, it may take 30 minutes before the charge indicator shows activity.
-
Reinsert the battery with the correct polarity — the label on the battery should face outward on most Fujifilm models. Ensure the battery clicks into the latch before closing the door.
-
Check the battery contacts in the camera compartment for dust, corrosion, or bent pins. Clean with a dry cotton swab if needed.
-
If you are in cold weather (below 5°C), warm the battery in an inside pocket for 10 minutes. Lithium batteries lose a large portion of their capacity in the cold.
-
If the camera still does not power on with a confirmed-charged battery, try removing the battery for 10 seconds and reinserting it. This resets the power management circuit.
Frequently Asked Questions
My Fujifilm camera turns on for a second then shuts off — why?
A camera that starts then immediately shuts off almost always has a battery that is near end-of-life — it has enough charge to show startup but not enough to sustain operation. Fujifilm NP-W126S and NP-W235 batteries typically last 500–700 charge cycles. If the battery is more than 3–4 years old, replace it.
