Wi-Fi Not Connecting

GoPro Action Camera

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

GoPro Wi-Fi connection failures are almost always caused by the phone connecting to the wrong network, the GoPro app needing an update, or the camera's Wi-Fi needing a reset. Forget the GoPro network on your phone and reconnect.

Affected Models

  • GoPro HERO 12
  • GoPro HERO 11
  • GoPro HERO 10
  • GoPro HERO 9
  • GoPro HERO 8
  • GoPro MAX

Common Causes

  • Phone auto-connected to home/office Wi-Fi instead of the GoPro network
  • GoPro app version outdated
  • GoPro Wi-Fi password forgotten or changed
  • Interference from other 2.4GHz networks in a crowded area
  • GoPro Wi-Fi module needs a reset

How to Fix It

  1. Enable Wi-Fi on the GoPro.

Swipe down on the GoPro touch screen → tap the Wi-Fi icon. The GoPro's network name (GOPRO-XXXX) should now be visible on your phone.

  2. On your phone, connect to the GoPro's Wi-Fi network.

Go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and select the GOPRO-XXXX network. The password is shown in GoPro Preferences → Connections → Camera Info.

  3. Forget the GoPro network on your phone and reconnect.

A corrupted Wi-Fi profile causes persistent connection failures. Forget the network in your phone's Wi-Fi settings, then reconnect with the password.

  4. Update the GoPro Quik app.

An outdated app loses compatibility with newer camera firmware. Update via the App Store or Google Play.

  5. Reset the camera's Wi-Fi settings.

Preferences → Reset → Reset Connections. This resets the Wi-Fi name and password to defaults. Reconnect your phone with the new credentials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Wi-Fi to use a GoPro?

No — Wi-Fi is only needed to use the GoPro Quik app for live preview, remote control, and file transfer. The camera records and functions completely without any Wi-Fi or phone connection.
