Maintenance Minder
Honda Vehicle
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
The Honda Maintenance Minder is a service reminder system, not a fault code. It calculates when service is due based on your actual driving conditions — not a fixed mileage interval. Code A means oil change due. Code B means oil change plus tyre rotation and inspection. Numbers 1-7 indicate additional services needed alongside the main service.
Affected Models
- Honda Civic
- Honda CR-V
- Honda Accord
- Honda HR-V
- Honda Pilot
- Honda Ridgeline
- Honda Fit
- Honda Jazz
- Honda Odyssey
Common Causes
- Oil life has fallen below 15% (Maintenance Minder activates at 15%, turns red at 5%)
- Service interval for other items (tyres, brakes, spark plugs, transmission fluid) has been reached
- System not reset after previous service
How to Fix It
-
Note the full Maintenance Minder code shown on the display.
Write down the letter (A or B) and any numbers shown (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). Each number indicates an additional service needed alongside the main oil service.
-
Decode the Maintenance Minder code.
A = Engine oil change. B = Engine oil change + tyre rotation + brake inspection + general inspection. 1 = Tyre rotation (if not done with B). 2 = Air filter + pollen filter. 3 = Transmission fluid. 4 = Spark plugs + valve clearance check. 5 = Engine coolant replacement. 6 = Rear differential fluid (AWD models). 7 = Brake fluid replacement.
-
Have the indicated services performed.
Honda dealers and independent Honda specialists can perform all Maintenance Minder services. For simple A services (oil only), any oil change shop can do this.
-
Reset the Maintenance Minder after service.
Turn ignition on (engine off). Press the Select/Reset knob until the Maintenance Minder information is displayed. Hold the knob for 10 seconds until the percentage resets. The exact reset procedure varies slightly by model year — check the owner's manual.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Honda Maintenance Minder just a mileage counter?
No — it is smarter than that. Honda's system monitors engine oil temperature, RPM patterns, and number of cold starts to estimate actual oil degradation. Short-trip urban driving causes the Maintenance Minder to activate sooner than highway driving at the same mileage. This means you service the car when it actually needs it, not on a fixed interval.
Can I ignore the Honda Maintenance Minder if I just changed the oil?
If you changed the oil but forgot to reset the Maintenance Minder, the warning will continue showing incorrect information. Always reset the system immediately after each service. If someone else serviced the car and did not reset it, the oil life percentage shown is inaccurate.
