TPMS Warning Light

Jeep Vehicle

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

The Jeep TPMS warning light means one or more tyres are significantly under-inflated. Jeep uses direct TPMS with pressure sensors in each wheel — some models show individual tyre pressures on the display. Inflate to the pressure shown on the door jamb sticker, then drive for 10-15 minutes at 25 mph or above for the warning to clear.

Affected Models

  • Jeep Wrangler
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • Jeep Cherokee
  • Jeep Compass
  • Jeep Renegade
  • Jeep Gladiator

Common Causes

  • One or more tyres under-inflated by 25% or more below recommended pressure
  • Seasonal temperature drop reducing tyre pressure below the threshold
  • Slow puncture or nail in the tread
  • TPMS sensor battery dead — sensors last approximately 5-7 years
  • TPMS sensor not relearned after a tyre rotation or replacement

How to Fix It

  1. Check tyre pressures on all four tyres and the spare if monitored.

Some Jeep Wrangler models also monitor the spare tyre pressure. The recommended pressure is on the door jamb sticker. Wrangler tyre pressures vary significantly depending on the tyre size fitted — check the sticker, not the tyre sidewall.

  2. Inflate all tyres to the recommended pressure.

On Jeeps with large aftermarket tyres, the recommended pressure may be different from the factory sticker — check the tyre manufacturer's recommendation for the specific tyre size if non-standard tyres are fitted.

  3. Drive at 15-25 mph for 10 minutes to allow TPMS sensors to update.

Jeep TPMS sensors transmit while rolling. The warning light should clear automatically once all sensors report correct pressure.

  4. If warning persists after inflating, check whether sensors need relearning.

After tyre rotation or replacement, Jeep TPMS sensors may need a relearn procedure. This is done with a TPMS activation tool that triggers each sensor in sequence. Any tyre shop can perform this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can aftermarket wheels affect the Jeep TPMS?

Yes. When fitting aftermarket wheels, the OEM TPMS sensors may or may not transfer to the new wheels depending on the sensor style and valve stem type. If sensors are not transferred, the TPMS light will illuminate permanently until new sensors are fitted and relearned. Always ask the wheel supplier and fitting shop about TPMS compatibility when buying aftermarket wheels.

Does the Jeep Wrangler show individual tyre pressures?

Jeep Wrangler JL (2018 onwards) and JT Gladiator display individual tyre pressures in the vehicle information centre on the instrument cluster. Older Wrangler JK models only illuminate the warning light without showing individual pressures — you need to check all four tyres manually.
