Not Brewing

DeLonghi Coffee Machine

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

A DeLonghi machine that makes noise but produces no coffee usually has a blocked grinder, empty water tank, or a clogged coffee spout. Check the basics first before assuming a hardware fault.

Affected Models

  • DeLonghi Magnifica
  • DeLonghi Magnifica Evo
  • DeLonghi PrimaDonna
  • DeLonghi Eletta
  • DeLonghi Dinamica

Common Causes

  • Empty water tank
  • Blocked grinder (oily beans caking the burrs)
  • Clogged coffee spout from dried coffee residue
  • Brewing unit needs cleaning
  • Coffee grind set too fine, creating a puck that is too dense to extract through

How to Fix It

  1. Check the water tank.

Remove the tank, confirm it is filled with fresh water, and reseat it firmly. DeLonghi machines will not brew if the tank is empty or not properly seated.

  2. Run a rinsing cycle.

Navigate to the rinse option in the menu and run a hot water rinse. This can clear a soft blockage in the internal water path or spout.

  3. Clean the coffee spout.

Remove and rinse the spout under warm water. Use a small brush to clear any dried coffee residue from the outlet holes.

  4. Check and clear the grinder.

Empty the bean hopper and check for oily residue or a foreign object jamming the grinder. Use a grinder cleaning tablet if the burrs are coated with coffee oil.

  5. Adjust the grind setting coarser.

A grind that is too fine produces an overly dense coffee puck that the pump cannot push water through. Adjust the grinder one step coarser and test again.

When to Call a Professional

If the machine runs through a full brewing cycle but no coffee comes out and cleaning has not helped, the internal pump or brewing unit may have failed. Contact DeLonghi support.
