App Not Connecting

Nespresso Coffee Machine

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

The Nespresso app connects via Bluetooth and occasionally loses pairing after a phone update or machine reset. Re-pairing the machine in the app usually fixes this in under 2 minutes.

Affected Models

  • Nespresso Vertuo Next
  • Nespresso Expert
  • Nespresso Creatista Plus
  • Nespresso Lattissima One
  • Nespresso Vertuo Pop+

Common Causes

  • Bluetooth is turned off on your phone
  • The machine and phone are too far apart for a reliable Bluetooth signal
  • The machine was factory reset and lost its pairing
  • The Nespresso app needs an update
  • Phone OS update broke Bluetooth permissions for the app
  • Another device is connected to the machine via Bluetooth and blocking the phone

How to Fix It

  1. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and that you are within 1–2 metres of the machine.

Nespresso Bluetooth range is short — you need to be close to the machine when pairing or connecting.

  2. Open your phone Settings > Bluetooth, find the Nespresso machine in the paired devices list, tap Forget / Remove, then try pairing again fresh.

A stale pairing entry often prevents reconnection. Removing it and starting fresh is more reliable than trying to reconnect to an existing entry.

  3. In the Nespresso app, go to Settings > My Machine and tap 'Connect a machine'. Follow the in-app pairing steps.

The app has its own pairing flow separate from the phone system Bluetooth settings. Use the app's pairing wizard for best results.

  4. Check the App Store or Google Play for a Nespresso app update. Install any available update, then relaunch the app and try connecting.

App updates often include Bluetooth compatibility fixes for new phone OS versions.

  5. Go to your phone's App Settings, find Nespresso, and verify that Bluetooth and Location permissions are both set to Allow.

On Android, Bluetooth device scanning requires Location permission. Many Android users unknowingly deny this during app setup, which prevents the app from finding the machine.

When to Call a Professional

App connectivity is not a hardware fault. If you cannot resolve the connection after re-pairing and reinstalling the app, contact Nespresso digital support at nespresso.com/support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need the Nespresso app for the machine to work?

No. The Nespresso app is optional — all Nespresso machines brew coffee perfectly well without it. The app adds convenience features like capsule ordering, brew statistics, and firmware updates, but none of these are required for normal operation.

Can two phones connect to the Nespresso machine at the same time?

No. The machine only pairs with one Bluetooth device at a time. If someone else in your household has the machine paired on their phone, their connection may be blocking yours. Have them forget the machine in their Bluetooth settings, then connect with your phone.
