Wi-Fi Not Connecting

Nespresso Coffee Machine

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Most Nespresso Wi-Fi setup failures happen because the machine only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (not 5 GHz), or because the Wi-Fi password was entered incorrectly. Switching to your router's 2.4 GHz network and re-entering the password fixes this in most cases.

Affected Models

  • Nespresso Vertuo Next
  • Nespresso Expert
  • Nespresso Prodigio
  • Nespresso Creatista Plus
  • Nespresso Vertuo Pop+

Common Causes

  • Router is broadcasting on 5 GHz only — machine requires 2.4 GHz
  • Wi-Fi password was typed incorrectly (passwords are case-sensitive)
  • Router has MAC address filtering enabled and is blocking the machine
  • Machine is too far from the router for a reliable signal
  • Router has WPA3 security only — some machines only support WPA2
  • Machine firmware is outdated and has known Wi-Fi bugs

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm your Wi-Fi is on a 2.4 GHz band. Most modern routers broadcast both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Your Nespresso machine requires the 2.4 GHz band.

On your router admin page (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1), you can see or rename your two Wi-Fi networks. Connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz network before setting up the machine.

  2. During Wi-Fi setup in the Nespresso app, type the password very carefully. Passwords are case-sensitive — a capital letter in the wrong place will cause the connection to fail.

If your Wi-Fi password is complex, copy it from your router label or your phone's saved passwords screen rather than typing it manually.

  3. Move the machine closer to the router during the initial setup — within 3 metres if possible.

A weak signal during the first connection can cause the handshake to time out even if the password is correct. After a successful setup, the machine can usually work at a normal distance.

  4. Restart your router: unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, wait 2 minutes for it to fully restart, then try the machine setup again.

A freshly restarted router processes new device connections more reliably than one that has been running for weeks without a restart.

  5. Check if your router has MAC address filtering enabled. If so, find the machine's MAC address (shown in the Nespresso app under machine details) and add it to your router's allowed list.

MAC filtering is a security setting that blocks all new devices by default. Most home routers have it turned off, but if yours has it on, every new smart device will need to be added manually.

When to Call a Professional

Wi-Fi setup failures are almost always router or phone configuration issues, not hardware faults. If you have tried all steps and the machine still will not connect, contact Nespresso support at nespresso.com/support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my Nespresso need Wi-Fi to make coffee?

No. Wi-Fi is only needed for optional smart features: remote brewing, capsule ordering, and firmware updates. Your machine brews coffee normally even if it is completely offline. Do not spend hours troubleshooting Wi-Fi if you just want your morning cup — the machine works without it.

What security type does Nespresso Wi-Fi support?

Most Nespresso smart machines support WPA2-Personal (the most common home router security type). If your router is set to WPA3-only mode, the machine may fail to connect. Set your router security to WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode (available in your router settings) to support both old and new devices.
