Common Causes
- EA/Respawn server instability
- Your connection to the selected data center is unstable
- High packet loss between you and the game server
- The match server crashed
- ISP routing issues to EA's servers
How to Fix It
-
Change your data center to one with the lowest ping.
On the main menu, wait 60 seconds without pressing anything. A Data Center option appears at the bottom. Select the server with the lowest ping and 0% packet loss.
-
Restart the game and try again.
Code:Leaf is often a one-time server issue. Restarting and joining a new match usually works.
-
Switch to a wired connection.
Wi-Fi packet loss is a major contributor to Code:Leaf. A wired connection reduces disconnections significantly.
-
Try a different DNS server (Google 8.8.8.8 or Cloudflare 1.1.1.1).
DNS can affect how your game connects to EA's servers. Changing DNS sometimes reduces Code:Leaf frequency.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do Apex errors use plant names?
Respawn uses nature-themed code names for their error types: Leaf, Net, Wheel, Snake, etc. Each name corresponds to a different category of error internally.
Does Code:Leaf affect my ranked points?
Unfortunately, yes. If you disconnect during a ranked match, you lose RP and may get a temporary matchmaking penalty. Respawn has a forgiveness system for frequent server issues, but it does not cover every case.
