Lag Spikes / High Ping

HoYoverse Genshin Impact

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Lag spikes in Genshin Impact are usually caused by network issues, server distance, or background downloads. Close bandwidth-heavy apps, use a wired connection, and check your server region.

Affected Models

  • PC
  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 5
  • iOS
  • Android

Common Causes

  • Playing on a server region far from your location
  • Background downloads or streaming consuming bandwidth
  • Wi-Fi instability
  • ISP congestion during peak hours
  • Low-spec device struggling with rendering

How to Fix It

  1. Check you are on the closest server region.

You cannot change servers after creating a character, but make sure you originally picked the right one. America, Europe, Asia, or TW/HK/MO.

  2. Close background applications using bandwidth.

Streaming, cloud sync, and downloads cause lag spikes.

  3. Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi adds latency and packet loss. Wired is always more stable.

  4. Lower graphics settings on mobile or low-spec devices.

Settings > Graphics > lower resolution, shadows, and effects. This reduces rendering load and can reduce perceived lag.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I transfer my account to a different server?

No. Genshin Impact does not support server transfers. Your character and progress are locked to the server you chose at the start.

What ping is good for Genshin Impact?

Under 100ms is good. 100-200ms is playable but noticeable. Above 200ms causes significant ability delays.
