Not Draining

Bosch Dishwasher

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

A Bosch dishwasher that will not drain almost always has a clogged filter basket. Remove the bottom rack, twist out the cylindrical filter, clean it under running water, and refit it.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Serie 2 Dishwasher
  • Bosch Serie 4 Dishwasher
  • Bosch Serie 6 Dishwasher
  • Bosch Serie 8 Dishwasher

Common Causes

  • Clogged filter basket — food debris blocking the drain outlet
  • Kinked or blocked drain hose
  • Blocked household drain or sink trap
  • Drain hose not raised high enough to prevent back-siphoning
  • Failed drain pump

How to Fix It

  1. Remove and clean the filter.

Remove the bottom rack. Twist the cylindrical filter counter-clockwise and lift it out, then lift out the flat mesh filter beneath it. Rinse both under the tap and use a soft brush to clear all trapped food. Refit and restart a Rinse cycle to test.

  2. Check the drain hose.

The drain hose must loop up to at least 40 cm above floor level before dropping to the drain — this prevents back-siphoning. Also check for kinks or blockages in the hose.

  3. Check the sink drain connection.

The dishwasher drains through the same pipe as the sink. If the sink drains slowly, the shared drain is blocked and will cause dishwasher drainage problems too. Clear the sink drain first.

When to Call a Professional

If cleaning the filter and inspecting the drain hose does not restore drainage, the drain pump has failed and needs professional replacement.
