Control Panel Not Responding
KitchenAid Dishwasher
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
If your KitchenAid dishwasher control panel is not responding, check if Control Lock is active first — it disables all buttons. Hold the Control Lock button for 3 seconds to toggle it off.
Affected Models
- KitchenAid Built-In Dishwasher
- KitchenAid Top Control Dishwasher
- KitchenAid Front Control Dishwasher
- KitchenAid KDTM Series Dishwasher
Common Causes
- Control Lock (child lock) activated — all buttons disabled
- Power surge or glitch causing control board to freeze
- Door not fully closed — panel disabled for safety
- Moisture under the touch panel causing false inputs
- Faulty control board or touch panel
How to Fix It
-
Check for Control Lock.
Look for a lock padlock icon on the display or a light near the Control Lock button. Hold the Control Lock button (sometimes labelled Lock or marked with a padlock icon) for 3 seconds to deactivate it. All buttons should respond normally once the lock is off.
-
Power cycle the dishwasher.
Switch off the dishwasher at the wall or trip the circuit breaker for 1 minute. Restore power and try the control panel again. A power cycle clears a frozen control board.
-
Ensure the door is fully closed.
The control panel on some KitchenAid models is disabled when the door is not fully latched. Push the door closed firmly until the latch clicks, then try the buttons.
-
Wipe the control panel dry.
Moisture on the touch panel surface can prevent buttons from registering. Dry the panel surface with a soft cloth and try again.
When to Call a Professional
If the control lock is off, the power cycle did not help, and individual buttons are unresponsive, the control board or touch panel has failed and needs replacement.
