Not Draining
Miele Dishwasher
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
A Miele dishwasher that will not drain almost always has a blocked filter. Remove the bottom basket, twist out the coarse filter and microfilter, clean them under the tap, and refit.
Affected Models
- Miele G Series Dishwasher
- Miele Active Dishwasher
- Miele Classic Plus Dishwasher
- Miele Excellence Dishwasher
Common Causes
- Blocked coarse filter or microfilter
- Kinked or blocked drain hose
- Blocked household drain or sink connection
- Drain hose not at sufficient height to prevent siphoning
- Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix It
-
Clean both filters.
Remove the bottom basket. Turn the coarse filter cap counter-clockwise and lift it out. Remove the flat microfilter underneath. Rinse both thoroughly and scrub away food residue with a soft brush. Refit and restart.
-
Inspect and clear the drain hose.
Pull the machine slightly forward. Inspect the drain hose for kinks and straighten them. Ensure the hose loops to at least 40 cm above floor level before connecting to the drain — this is essential for Miele machines.
-
Check the sink drain.
Run the kitchen tap and confirm the sink drains freely. The Miele dishwasher drain connects to the same waste pipe — a blocked sink drain causes dishwasher drainage problems too.
When to Call a Professional
If cleaning the filters and inspecting the drain hose does not restore drainage, the drain pump has failed and needs replacement by a Miele-authorised technician.
