Battery Not Charging
DJI Drone
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
A DJI battery that will not charge is usually in hibernation mode (caused by being stored fully discharged for weeks) or has a faulty charging hub connection. Leave it connected to the charger for 30+ minutes — hibernating batteries wake up slowly.
Affected Models
- DJI Mini 4 Pro
- DJI Mini 3 Pro
- DJI Air 3
- DJI Air 2S
- DJI Mavic 3
- DJI FPV
Common Causes
- Battery in hibernation mode — stored fully discharged for too long
- Charging hub or USB-C cable faulty
- Battery temperature outside acceptable charging range (below 5°C or above 40°C)
- Battery cells damaged from over-discharge or crash impact
- Charging port pins dirty or bent
How to Fix It
-
Leave the battery connected to the charger for at least 30-60 minutes before giving up.
DJI Intelligent Flight Batteries enter hibernation mode when stored at 0%. A hibernating battery shows no lights and appears completely dead for 15-45 minutes before the protection circuit wakes and allows charging to begin.
-
Check the charging cable and hub with a different device.
Plug the charging cable into another USB-C device to confirm it delivers power. Swap to a different cable or hub if available — faulty cables are a common cause of no-charging symptoms.
-
Charge in a warm room — battery must be between 5°C and 40°C.
DJI batteries refuse to charge outside this temperature window to prevent cell damage. If the battery is cold (from outdoor storage in winter), bring it indoors for 30 minutes before connecting the charger.
-
Clean the battery charging contacts.
Inspect the gold charging contacts on the battery and inside the charging hub. Wipe with a dry cotton bud to remove any oxidation or debris.
-
Check the DJI Fly app for battery status when inserted in the drone.
Insert the battery into the drone and power on. The DJI Fly app displays detailed battery cell voltage. If one or more cells show 0V, the battery has failed and must be replaced.
When to Call a Professional
A battery that shows 0% and will not charge after 1-2 hours connected to a known-good charger has likely suffered cell damage and must be replaced. DJI batteries cannot be repaired.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do DJI Intelligent Flight Batteries last?
DJI rates its batteries for approximately 200 charge cycles. After 200 cycles capacity degrades noticeably. After 300-400 cycles, flight time may be significantly reduced.
Is it safe to leave a DJI battery on charge overnight?
Yes. DJI Intelligent Flight Batteries have overcharge protection and stop accepting charge once full. However, DJI recommends storing batteries at 40-65% charge if not flying for more than 10 days.
