Low Battery Warning

DJI Drone

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Low Battery Warning means the drone battery has enough power to return home but not much more. The DJI app will suggest or trigger a Return to Home at this point. Start flying back immediately — do not continue shooting.

Affected Models

  • DJI Mini 3 Pro
  • DJI Mavic 3
  • DJI Air 2S
  • DJI Mini 4 Pro
  • DJI Phantom 4 Pro
  • DJI Neo

Common Causes

  • Flight time approaching the battery's remaining capacity
  • Flew further or longer than planned
  • Cold weather reducing effective battery capacity
  • Headwinds requiring more power on the return trip
  • Battery health degraded from age or charge cycles

How to Fix It

  1. Immediately begin flying the drone back toward your home point.

The low battery warning gives you enough time to return, but only if you start now. Do not delay.

  2. Press Return to Home if you are far away or unsure of the exact path back.

RTH automatically flies the drone back at altitude and lands at the home point. It is the safest option when battery is low.

  3. Reduce altitude and fly in a straight line — avoid hovering or maneuvering.

Every second of hovering uses power without making progress. A straight-line path home uses the least battery.

  4. Land as soon as the drone is over safe ground.

Do not try to reach the exact home point if a safe landing spot is available sooner.

When to Call a Professional

Low Battery Warning is a normal part of flying and requires no professional help. If warnings appear very early in the flight, the battery may need replacing. DJI Intelligent Batteries are available directly from DJI for most models.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what battery percentage does the Low Battery Warning appear?

The warning appears at a calculated level based on how far the drone is from home, not a fixed percentage. A drone far away may trigger the warning at 40%, while one nearby may not warn until 25%. You can adjust the warning threshold in the DJI Fly app safety settings.

Can I disable the Low Battery Warning?

You can adjust the threshold, but disabling it entirely is not recommended. The warning exists to prevent crashes from power failure. Experienced pilots sometimes raise the threshold for more conservative flying.

How can I maximize battery life per flight?

Fly in calm conditions — wind is the biggest battery drain. Avoid aggressive maneuvers and fly at moderate speeds. Keep the drone lower when flying back — altitude burns extra power climbing.
