Remote Controller Disconnected

DJI Drone

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

Remote Controller Disconnected means the drone is no longer linked to your controller. This can happen if the drone was not properly linked or if the link was reset. You need to re-link (pair) the drone and controller before flying.

Affected Models

  • DJI Mini 3 Pro
  • DJI Mavic 3
  • DJI Air 2S
  • DJI Mini 4 Pro
  • DJI RC-N1 Controller
  • DJI RC2 Controller

Common Causes

  • Drone and controller have not been linked (paired) together
  • Firmware update reset the controller link
  • Using a different controller than the one originally paired
  • Controller reset to factory settings
  • Corrupted link data in the drone or controller

How to Fix It

  1. Power on both the drone and the remote controller.

Both must be powered on simultaneously for the linking process to work.

  2. On the DJI RC or RC2 controller, go to Settings > Control > Linking.

For the RC-N1 controller, hold the link button on the back of the controller until it beeps.

  3. On the drone, press the link button (usually on the side or rear of the body) until the LED flashes.

Check your drone model's manual for the exact location of the link button. Different models vary.

  4. Wait for the LED to turn solid green and the controller to confirm linking.

Linking takes about 10-30 seconds. Do not power off either device during the process.

  5. Test the connection by moving control sticks and watching the response in the DJI Fly app.

The drone's motors should arm and the camera feed should appear when the link is successful.

When to Call a Professional

Re-linking is a simple process that takes 2 minutes. No professional help is needed. Contact DJI support only if the linking process fails repeatedly, which may indicate a hardware issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I link a DJI drone to a third-party controller?

No — DJI drones only link with official DJI remote controllers. Third-party controllers are not compatible with DJI's OcuSync or O3 link technology. Always use the controller that came with your drone or a compatible DJI controller.

Will re-linking erase my drone settings?

No — re-linking only updates the wireless connection between the drone and controller. Your drone settings, calibration data, and flight logs are not affected. You will not need to recalibrate the compass or IMU after re-linking.

My controller shows connected but the DJI Fly app shows disconnected — why?

The controller-to-drone link and the phone-to-controller link are separate connections. Make sure your phone is connected to the controller via USB (RC-N1) or Wi-Fi (RC/RC2). Restart the DJI Fly app and reconnect the phone to the controller.
