Remote ID Not Set

DJI Drone

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Remote ID is a legal requirement in the US (from 2023), EU, and other regions — your drone must broadcast identification data while flying. This warning means Remote ID is not configured in the DJI Fly app. You can still fly in many cases, but you may be breaking aviation law.

Affected Models

  • DJI Mini 3 Pro
  • DJI Mini 4 Pro
  • DJI Mavic 3
  • DJI Mavic 3 Classic
  • DJI Air 2S
  • DJI Air 3
  • DJI Avata 2

Common Causes

  • Remote ID not enabled or set up in DJI Fly app settings
  • DJI account not linked to a Remote ID registration
  • Firmware version does not support Remote ID (needs update)
  • Flying a drone that predates Remote ID requirements without a module

How to Fix It

  1. Update DJI Fly to the latest version.

Remote ID setup was added in DJI Fly 1.8+. Update the app via the App Store or Google Play.

  2. Go to DJI Fly → Profile → Remote ID and enter your registration details.

In the US, register your drone at faadronezone.faa.gov. In the EU, register with your national aviation authority. Enter the registration number in the DJI Fly Remote ID field.

  3. Update the drone firmware.

Remote ID broadcasting requires firmware support. Open DJI Fly → Firmware Update and install the latest version.

  4. For older drones, check if a Remote ID module is required.

Drones manufactured before the Remote ID rule (pre-2022 in the US) may need a physical Remote ID broadcast module attached. Check the FAA and DJI websites for your specific model's requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I HAVE to set up Remote ID to fly?

In the US, FAA Remote ID was mandatory from September 2023 for most drones over 250g. In the EU, similar rules apply. Flying without it in a jurisdiction that requires it is technically illegal. Check your country's specific rules — regulations vary.

Does the DJI Mini 2 SE have Remote ID?

The Mini 2 SE does not have built-in Remote ID. In the US, it falls under 250g so standard Remote ID rules may not apply — check the FAA website for your specific case.
