Return to Home Failed
Parrot Drone
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Parrot Anafi return to home fails when the home point was not set correctly at takeoff, or GPS signal is too weak to navigate back. Always wait for a GPS fix before taking off to ensure a valid home point is recorded.
Affected Models
- Parrot Anafi
- Parrot Anafi USA
- Parrot Bebop 2
- Parrot Bebop 2 Power
Common Causes
- Took off before GPS achieved a fix — no home point recorded
- GPS signal lost during return — drone cannot navigate
- Return-to-home altitude set too low — drone hit an obstacle
- FreeFlight 6 app lost connection before RTH completed
- Home point was set at a different location (moved the pilot)
How to Fix It
-
Always wait for GPS fix before takeoff.
The FreeFlight 6 status bar shows the GPS satellite count. Wait until you see at least 10 satellites and the status reads 'Ready to Fly' before lifting off.
-
Set the return-to-home altitude above local obstacles.
In FreeFlight 6: Settings → Geofence & Return Home → Return Home Altitude. Set it at least 30 metres, or higher if flying near trees or buildings.
-
Use the manual landing override if RTH is behaving incorrectly.
During any automated RTH, you can take manual control by moving the joystick. If the drone is heading toward an obstacle, take control immediately and land manually.
-
Check the home point location on the FreeFlight 6 map.
The map view shows a 'H' marker for the home point. If the marker is in the wrong location, you moved after takeoff. Remind yourself to set a new home point after moving — tap the H to update it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Parrot Anafi return home if the app disconnects?
Yes. The Parrot Anafi triggers an automatic return to home after a configurable connection loss timeout (default: 10 seconds). It will fly back and land at the recorded home point.
Does the Parrot Anafi have obstacle avoidance for RTH?
No. The Parrot Anafi does not have forward-facing obstacle avoidance sensors. Set a high enough RTH altitude to clear all obstacles in its path home.
