Video Recording Failed

Parrot Drone

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Parrot Anafi video recording failure is usually caused by a full or incorrectly formatted SD card, or a FreeFlight 6 recording permission issue. Format the SD card in the drone itself and retry.

Affected Models

  • Parrot Anafi
  • Parrot Anafi USA
  • Parrot Anafi Thermal

Common Causes

  • MicroSD card full
  • MicroSD card formatted in exFAT on a computer — drone expects FAT32 or in-drone format
  • Unsupported or slow SD card — under Class 10 / U1
  • FreeFlight 6 recording not started before takeoff
  • SD card write-protect switch engaged

How to Fix It

  1. Check the MicroSD card storage in FreeFlight 6.

In FreeFlight 6, tap the camera settings icon during the live view. The remaining storage is shown. If full, delete old footage or swap in a new card.

  2. Format the SD card from within the drone.

In FreeFlight 6: Settings → Memory → Format SD Card. Formatting in the app uses the drone's native format and avoids compatibility issues caused by formatting on a PC or Mac.

  3. Use a UHS-I (U1 or U3) MicroSD card rated at least Class 10.

Slow cards drop frames and fail mid-recording. Samsung Evo Plus, SanDisk Extreme, and Lexar 633x work well with the Parrot Anafi.

  4. Check that the SD card write-protect tab is off.

Full-size SD cards have a small plastic tab on the side. If this tab is in the locked position, the drone cannot write video. Slide the tab toward the contacts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What SD card size does the Parrot Anafi support?

The Parrot Anafi supports MicroSD cards up to 256 GB. A 64 GB card gives roughly 2 hours of 4K footage at the default bitrate.

Can I record directly to my phone instead of an SD card?

No. The Parrot Anafi records only to the MicroSD card inside the drone. FreeFlight 6 streams the live view to the phone but does not save video directly to phone storage.
