Low Battery

Ryze Tello Drone

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

The Tello warns about low battery and will auto-land if you don't act. Land manually as soon as the first warning appears. The Tello has about 13 minutes of flight time at best.

Affected Models

  • Ryze Tello
  • Ryze Tello EDU

Common Causes

  • Flight time approaching the 13-minute limit
  • Cold weather reducing battery capacity
  • Aggressive flying, rapid climbs, or flying in wind consuming extra power
  • Old battery with reduced capacity after many charge cycles

How to Fix It

  1. Land immediately when the low battery warning appears.

The Tello gives a warning at approximately 20% battery, then auto-lands at 10%. Do not try to squeeze in more flight time.

  2. Watch the battery percentage in the Tello app.

The battery percentage is shown at the top of the screen. Plan your flight to land with at least 15% remaining.

  3. Charge with the official Tello charger.

Charge time is approximately 90 minutes from empty to full. The Tello EDU charging hub can charge multiple batteries simultaneously.

  4. Buy spare batteries for longer sessions.

Ryze sells official Tello batteries (1100mAh). Two or three spare batteries gives a practical session without long waits.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Tello battery last?

Ryze rates the Tello at 13 minutes. In practice expect 10–12 minutes with active flying. Cold weather can reduce this to 7–8 minutes. The battery is 1100mAh / 3.8V.

Can I use third-party batteries in the Tello?

Third-party Tello-compatible batteries exist but quality varies. Some work well; others have reported issues with capacity reporting. For safety, Ryze's own battery is recommended — it's inexpensive.
