No Tumble
Samsung Dryer
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
A Samsung dryer drum that won't spin is almost always caused by a broken drive belt. The motor runs and the dryer heats, but without the belt the drum cannot turn.
Affected Models
- Samsung Electric Dryer
- Samsung Gas Dryer
- Samsung DV Series
- Samsung Smart Dryer
Common Causes
- Broken drive belt (most common)
- Worn or seized drum support rollers
- Failed idler pulley keeping belt tension
- Motor failure (less common)
- Foreign object jamming the drum from inside
How to Fix It
-
Check for a broken drive belt.
Open the dryer door and try to turn the drum by hand. If it spins very freely with no resistance, the drive belt has snapped. A drum with a good belt should offer moderate resistance when turned by hand.
-
Check for a jammed foreign object.
Coins, buttons, or bra underwires can fall between the drum and the front or rear bulkhead and jam the drum. Check inside the drum and around the door seal for any trapped objects before disassembling.
-
Replace the drive belt.
Unplug the dryer, remove the top and front panels, and lift the drum out. Route the new belt around the drum (flat side against the drum), over the idler pulley, and around the motor pulley. Replacement belts cost $10–$20.
-
Inspect drum support rollers and idler pulley.
While the drum is out, spin each support roller by hand. Rollers that are flat, cracked, or stiff should be replaced — they are inexpensive and worn rollers cause the belt to fail again prematurely.
When to Call a Professional
Replacing a drive belt requires disassembling the dryer cabinet. If you are not comfortable with this level of repair, an appliance technician can complete it in about an hour.
