What Does This Error Mean?

Kobo OverDrive loans not appearing is usually caused by a broken link between your Kobo account and your library card, or a Wi-Fi connection that dropped during the transfer. In the Libby app, re-send the loan to your Kobo. If the Kobo does not appear as a destination in Libby, re-link the Kobo account in the Libby send menu.

Common Causes

  • Kobo account not linked to the Libby/OverDrive app for the first time
  • Wi-Fi dropped during the book transfer from Libby to Kobo
  • OverDrive loan expired before the book was downloaded
  • Kobo account email does not match the one used in Libby
  • Kobo not connected to Wi-Fi when the transfer was initiated

How to Fix It

  1. Link your Kobo account in the Libby app.

    In the Libby app on your phone, go to Shelf > the borrowed title > Send to > Kobo E-Reader. If prompted to connect your Kobo, enter your Kobo email address and follow the linking steps. This creates the connection between Libby and your Kobo account.

  2. Send the loan to Kobo again.

    In Libby, find the borrowed title on your Shelf, tap Send to > Kobo E-Reader. Then on your Kobo, open the Kobo store and tap the Sync icon. The book should appear in your library within a minute.

  3. Ensure the Kobo is on Wi-Fi during sync.

    The Kobo must be connected to Wi-Fi to receive the OverDrive transfer. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and confirm the connection before syncing. The book download happens over Wi-Fi after Libby sends the loan to your Kobo account.

  4. Check that the loan has not expired.

    OverDrive loans have a set borrowing period (typically 7–21 days). If the loan expired before you downloaded it, it will no longer appear. Return to Libby, check your borrows, and reborrow the title if available.

  5. Confirm the Kobo account email matches.

    The email address entered in Libby when linking your Kobo must exactly match your Kobo/Rakuten account email. Go to Settings > Account on your Kobo to see the registered email. Update the email in Libby if there is a mismatch.
