Pocket Not Syncing / Articles Not Appearing
Kobo E-reader
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Kobo's built-in Pocket integration stops syncing when the Pocket account link expires or Wi-Fi drops during sync. Go to Settings > Pocket and disconnect, then reconnect your Pocket account to refresh the link. Articles saved in Pocket appear under the Articles section of the Kobo library after a successful sync.
Affected Models
- Kobo Libra 2
- Kobo Sage
- Kobo Clara 2E
- Kobo Forma
- Kobo Libra H2O
- All Kobo devices with Pocket integration
Common Causes
- Pocket account session expired on the Kobo — requires re-authentication
- Wi-Fi not connected when the Kobo attempts to sync new Pocket articles
- Pocket account password changed — stored credentials no longer valid
- Pocket/Mozilla discontinued certain API features (check Pocket service status)
- Articles saved to Pocket but not yet downloaded to the Kobo library
How to Fix It
-
Disconnect and reconnect the Pocket account.
Go to Settings > Account > Pocket on your Kobo. Tap Disconnect (or Sign Out), wait 15 seconds, then tap Connect and sign in to Pocket again. This refreshes the OAuth token that the Kobo uses to access your Pocket list.
-
Sync the Kobo.
After reconnecting Pocket, tap the Sync icon on the Home screen. New Pocket articles are fetched during each sync. Allow up to 2 minutes for articles to appear in the Pocket section of your Kobo library.
-
Check Wi-Fi connectivity.
The Kobo must be on Wi-Fi to download Pocket articles. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and confirm the connection is active. Pocket articles are not downloaded in airplane mode or without a working internet connection.
-
Save a new article to test the connection.
Open the Pocket app or website on your phone and save a new article. Then sync your Kobo and check if the new article appears. If it does, the integration is working — older articles may have already been archived in Pocket.
-
Verify articles are saved in Pocket, not archived.
Kobo only downloads articles from your active Pocket list — not archived items. In the Pocket app, confirm the articles you expect to see are in the main list (not the Archive). Move archived articles back to the main list and sync again.
When to Call a Professional
Pocket integration is a third-party account issue — no hardware service is needed. If Pocket is unavailable across all devices, the Pocket service itself may have an outage.
