Kobo Store Not Loading / Blank Store
Kobo E-reader
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
The Kobo store failing to load is usually a Wi-Fi issue or a temporary Kobo/Rakuten server problem. Check your Wi-Fi connection, sync the device, and wait a few minutes if the Kobo servers are undergoing maintenance. Signing out and back in to your Kobo account also refreshes the store session.
Affected Models
- Kobo Libra 2
- Kobo Sage
- Kobo Clara 2E
- Kobo Nia
- All Kobo devices with store access
Common Causes
- Wi-Fi connected but internet access blocked — router or ISP issue
- Kobo/Rakuten server outage or maintenance window
- Kobo account session expired — store requires re-authentication
- VPN or parental controls on the router blocking Kobo store domains
- Outdated firmware that is incompatible with the current store API
How to Fix It
-
Verify the internet connection.
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and confirm the Kobo is connected. Then try opening the Kobo browser (if available) and navigating to any website. If the internet does not load, the Wi-Fi connection is active but the network itself has no internet access.
-
Sync the device.
From the Home screen, tap the Sync icon (circular arrows) in the top corner. A sync refreshes the connection to Kobo servers and often re-loads the store after a temporary connection drop.
-
Sign out and back in to your Kobo account.
Go to Settings > Account > Sign Out. Wait 30 seconds, then sign back in with your Kobo/Rakuten email and password. This refreshes the authentication session that the store requires.
-
Update the Kobo firmware.
Go to Settings > About Kobo > Check for Updates. Older firmware versions may be incompatible with the current version of the Kobo store. Install any available updates and retry the store.
-
Try a different Wi-Fi network.
Connect the Kobo to a different Wi-Fi network (a hotspot or a neighbour's network) and test the store. If the store loads normally on another network, your home router is blocking Kobo store domains. Check for parental controls, content filtering, or firewall rules on your router.
When to Call a Professional
The Kobo store is a network service — no hardware service is needed. If the store works on another Wi-Fi network but not yours, check your router's content filtering settings.
