What Does This Error Mean?

A Nook library that stops syncing is usually caused by a Wi-Fi connectivity issue or an expired session on the Barnes & Noble account. Force a sync by pulling down on the Library screen, or go to Settings > Sync. If books purchased on another device do not appear, sign out and back in to refresh the account.

Common Causes

  • Wi-Fi connection dropped or too weak to complete sync
  • Barnes & Noble account session expired on the Nook
  • New book purchased on the website but Nook not synced yet
  • Nook software needs update which includes sync improvements
  • B&N server outage (check status.barnesandnoble.com)

How to Fix It

  1. Check Wi-Fi connectivity.

    Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and confirm the Nook is connected to your network. Open the web browser and try loading a page to verify the internet connection is active. If Wi-Fi is connected but the internet does not load, the network itself has an issue.

  2. Force sync the library.

    In the Nook Library, pull down on the screen to trigger a manual sync. Alternatively, go to Settings > Account > Sync Now. Wait 1–2 minutes for the sync to complete, then check if the missing books appear.

  3. Sign out and sign back in to your B&N account.

    Go to Settings > Account and sign out of your Barnes & Noble account. Wait 30 seconds, then sign back in with your B&N email and password. After signing in, the library will re-sync and should restore all purchased content.

  4. Update the Nook software.

    Go to Settings > Device Info > Software Update. Install any available updates — sync reliability improvements are often included in updates. After updating, restart the Nook and check the library again.

  5. Check for a B&N service outage.

    Barnes & Noble occasionally has server maintenance windows that prevent syncing. Check the B&N website from another device to see if your account and purchases are accessible. If B&N is down, wait and try syncing again later.

If library content purchased from Barnes & Noble does not appear after a sign-out and sign-in on a working Wi-Fi connection, contact B&N customer support — purchases may need to be manually pushed to your device.
