Sync Failed
Barnes & Noble Nook
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Nook Sync Failed most often means the device lost its Wi-Fi connection during a sync attempt, or the Barnes & Noble server returned an error. Move closer to your router, retry the sync, and if the error persists, sign out and back in to your B&N account to refresh authentication.
Affected Models
- Nook GlowLight 3
- Nook GlowLight Plus
- Nook Tablet 7
- Nook Tablet 10.1
Common Causes
- Wi-Fi connection dropped mid-sync
- Barnes & Noble server temporarily unavailable
- Account authentication token expired
- Nook storage is full — no space to save downloaded content
- Corrupted download cache on the device
How to Fix It
-
Move closer to your Wi-Fi router.
A weak Wi-Fi signal is the most common cause of sync failures. Move the Nook within 10 feet of the router and retry the sync. Avoid syncing through thick walls, near microwaves, or in areas with heavy wireless traffic.
-
Retry the sync after a short wait.
Temporary B&N server issues often resolve within a few minutes. Wait 5 minutes and attempt the sync again before doing more complex troubleshooting.
-
Sign out and sign back in.
Go to Settings > Account, sign out of your Barnes & Noble account, then sign back in. This refreshes the authentication credentials that the Nook uses to connect to B&N servers.
-
Check available storage.
Go to Settings > Device Info > SD Card or Storage. If the device storage is nearly full, delete items you no longer need or move sideloaded content to a PC. The Nook needs free space to download and cache synced content.
-
Clear the Nook download cache.
Go to Settings > Apps (on Nook Tablets) or Settings > Device Info. Look for a Clear Cache option. Clearing the cache removes corrupted temporary download files that can cause repeated sync failures.
When to Call a Professional
If Sync Failed occurs consistently for specific titles only, those titles may have a DRM or license issue on your account. Contact Barnes & Noble customer support to refresh the license.
