Anti-Theft Alarm Keeps Going Off

Various Electric Bike

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

An e-bike alarm triggering by itself is usually caused by the vibration sensitivity set too high. Access the alarm settings through the companion app and reduce the vibration sensitivity level by 2 steps.

Affected Models

  • E-bikes with Bosch SmartSystem alarm
  • Rad Power Bikes
  • VanMoof S5 / A5
  • E-bikes with built-in motion sensors
  • Generic e-bikes with integrated lock alarms

Common Causes

  • Vibration sensitivity set too high — passing trucks, wind, or minor bumps trigger it
  • Alarm armed in a high-vibration environment such as a garage near a busy road
  • Low alarm battery causing erratic behavior and false triggers
  • App connectivity issue leaving the alarm in an inconsistent armed state
  • Firmware bug in the alarm module resolved by an app or firmware update

How to Fix It

  1. Disarm the alarm using the companion app.

Open the bike's companion app and navigate to the security or alarm section. Toggle the alarm off if it is stuck in an armed state. If the app cannot connect, use the physical key fob or unlock button if your bike has one.

  2. Reduce the vibration sensitivity.

In the app's security settings, find the alarm sensitivity or vibration threshold slider. Reduce it by at least 2 steps from the current setting. A lower sensitivity level prevents wind, passing traffic, and accidental bumps from triggering the alarm while still detecting deliberate tampering.

  3. Check the alarm battery level.

Some e-bike alarms have a dedicated battery separate from the main traction battery. A low alarm battery causes erratic behavior including false triggers and unexpected arming. Check the companion app for an alarm battery indicator, or look for a low-battery light on the alarm module itself.

  4. Update the bike firmware and app.

Open the companion app and check for firmware updates for both the bike and the app. Alarm false-trigger bugs are a documented issue on several e-bike platforms and are often resolved in firmware updates. Install any available update and retest the alarm at the current sensitivity setting.

  5. Park the bike away from vibration sources.

If sensitivity cannot be reduced further without disabling the alarm entirely, park the bike away from high-vibration surfaces and heavy traffic areas. Storing the bike indoors on a carpeted or rubber-matted floor reduces ambient vibration reaching the sensor. Some riders arm the alarm only when leaving the bike in a genuinely high-risk location.

When to Call a Professional

If the alarm triggers even at the lowest sensitivity setting while the bike is completely stationary and indoors, the alarm sensor module may need inspection or replacement.
