Display Not Working / Blank
Various Electric Bike
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
An e-bike display that will not turn on usually has a loose cable connection, a dead battery, or a blown fuse. Check the display cable connection first — this fixes most cases.
Affected Models
- Rad Power Bikes
- Lectric XP
- Aventon
- Bafang display systems
- Most e-bikes with LCD displays
Common Causes
- Display cable disconnected from the controller
- Main battery completely dead
- Display fuse blown
- Water damage to the display connector
- Display hardware failure
How to Fix It
-
Check the display cable connection.
The cable connects the display to the controller (usually near the handlebars or head tube). Unplug and firmly replug the connector.
-
Check the main battery.
Press the battery's power button. If no LEDs light up, the battery is dead. Charge the battery and try again.
-
Check the display connector for water.
If you rode in rain, moisture may have entered the connector. Dry it thoroughly. Apply dielectric grease to prevent future moisture.
-
Check the controller fuse.
Some controllers have a fuse that blows from a power surge. Check the controller box for a replaceable fuse.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I ride without the display?
The bike is rideable as a regular bicycle. But without the display, the motor will not engage — no pedal assist or throttle.
Can I replace just the display?
Yes. Displays are replaceable — make sure you get one compatible with your controller protocol (KT, Bafang, etc.).
