Error 30 / E030

Various Electric Bike

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Error 30 means the display cannot communicate with the motor controller. The communication cable may be loose, damaged, or the controller has a fault. Check all cable connections between the display and controller.

Affected Models

  • Rad Power Bikes
  • Lectric XP
  • Aventon
  • Bafang motor systems
  • Most e-bikes with LCD displays

Common Causes

  • Display cable disconnected from controller
  • Cable connector corroded from water exposure
  • Display or controller firmware mismatch
  • Damaged cable from vibration or a crash
  • Controller board failure

How to Fix It

  1. Check the cable connection between display and controller.

The display connects to the controller via a multi-pin cable. Unplug and replug the connector firmly.

  2. Inspect the connector for corrosion.

Water exposure can corrode the pins. Clean with electrical contact cleaner.

  3. Turn the bike off and on.

Hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn off, then on again.

  4. Check for firmware updates from the manufacturer.

Some Error 30 issues are fixed by display or controller firmware updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still pedal with Error 30?

Yes. The bike functions as a regular bicycle without electric assist. You just lose motor power and the display.

Are e-bike error codes universal?

No. Error codes vary by motor system (Bafang, Shimano, Bosch, etc.). Some codes (like 30 for communication) are common across Bafang-based systems.
