App Not Connecting
Segway-Ninebot Electric Scooter
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
The Segway-Ninebot app failing to connect to the scooter is almost always a Bluetooth or pairing issue. Stand next to the scooter, enable Location on Android, and try removing and re-adding the scooter in the app.
Affected Models
- Ninebot KickScooter MAX G30
- Ninebot KickScooter E2
- Ninebot KickScooter F2
- Segway Ninebot MAX G2
- Ninebot ES2
- Ninebot ES4
Common Causes
- Scooter out of Bluetooth range
- Android Location permission not granted to the app
- App version outdated
- Scooter already connected to another phone
- Scooter Bluetooth module needs a restart
How to Fix It
-
Stand within 3 metres of the scooter.
Ninebot Bluetooth range is short. Always connect at close range first, then move further away once connected.
-
Enable Location permission for the Segway-Ninebot app.
On Android, Bluetooth scanning requires Location permission. Settings → Apps → Segway-Ninebot → Permissions → Location → Allow. This is an Android requirement, not optional.
-
Power cycle the scooter.
Turn off the scooter, wait 10 seconds, power back on. This restarts the Bluetooth module and often resolves failed connections.
-
Remove the scooter from the app and re-pair.
In the app: tap the scooter → Settings (cog icon) → Unbind Device. Then tap + in the app and re-pair the scooter from scratch.
-
Update the Segway-Ninebot app.
Outdated app versions lose compatibility after scooter firmware updates. Update via the App Store or Google Play.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the app to ride the scooter?
No — the scooter works without the app once unlocked. The app is mainly used to change speed modes, lock/unlock, view battery stats, and update firmware. If you can't connect, you can still ride normally.
