Brake Error / Weak Brakes
Segway-Ninebot Electric Scooter
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
Brake issues on a Ninebot can be a loose brake cable, worn brake pads, or an electronic brake sensor fault. Do not ride with faulty brakes — fix them before riding.
Affected Models
- Ninebot KickScooter Max
- Ninebot KickScooter E2
- Ninebot KickScooter F2
- Segway Ninebot ES series
Common Causes
- Brake cable stretched — needs tightening
- Brake pads worn — need replacement
- Electronic brake sensor disconnected
- Brake disc bent (disc brake models)
- Regenerative braking not engaging (electronic issue)
How to Fix It
-
DO NOT RIDE with faulty brakes — this is a safety issue.
Fix the brakes before riding. Walk the scooter if needed.
-
Tighten the brake cable.
The cable adjustment screw is near the brake lever or the brake caliper. Turn it to take up slack until the brake engages firmly.
-
Check brake pad thickness.
Look at the brake pads through the caliper slot. If they are thinner than 1mm, replace them.
-
For electronic brake errors: check the brake sensor cable.
The brake lever has a sensor that cuts motor power when braking. A disconnected cable means the motor does not cut out during braking.
Frequently Asked Questions

Every 500-1000 miles depending on riding style and terrain. Check them monthly.
Does the Ninebot Max have disc brakes?
