Error 10

Segway-Ninebot Electric Scooter

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Error 10 on a Segway or Ninebot scooter indicates a battery or BMS (Battery Management System) communication error. The scooter will refuse to operate. A full power cycle fixes it in some cases; otherwise the battery requires inspection.

Affected Models

  • Ninebot KickScooter MAX G30
  • Ninebot KickScooter E2
  • Ninebot KickScooter F2
  • Segway Ninebot MAX G2
  • Ninebot KickScooter P65

Common Causes

  • Battery pack connector loose inside the deck
  • BMS communication lost after a firmware update
  • Water damage to the battery or BMS
  • Battery deeply discharged below recovery threshold
  • BMS hardware failure

How to Fix It

  1. Fully power off and power back on.

Hold the power button until the display turns off. Wait 60 seconds, then power on again. Transient BMS communication errors often clear with a full restart.

  2. Charge the scooter fully.

A deeply discharged battery can trigger Error 10 as the BMS protects itself. Plug in and charge for at least 2 hours before trying to power on again.

  3. Check for water exposure.

The Ninebot MAX series has IPX5 water resistance but is not waterproof. Riding in heavy rain or through standing water can cause BMS errors. Leave the scooter in a warm, dry room for 24–48 hours before retrying.

  4. Update firmware via the Segway-Ninebot app.

Connect via Bluetooth in the app and check Device → Firmware Update. Some Error 10 occurrences are caused by firmware bugs fixed in updates.

  5. Contact Segway-Ninebot support.

Persistent Error 10 after charging and drying indicates a hardware BMS fault. Contact support at segway.com — if under warranty, they will arrange repair or replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Error 10 mean I need a new battery?

Not necessarily. Many Error 10 cases are resolved by a full charge or firmware update. A new battery is only needed if the error persists after all troubleshooting steps and Segway support confirms a hardware fault.
