Error 13
Segway-Ninebot Electric Scooter
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Error 13 on a Segway or Ninebot scooter typically indicates a motor controller or throttle fault. The scooter may not accelerate or may cut out under load. Power cycling fixes it temporarily in some cases.
Affected Models
- Ninebot KickScooter MAX G30
- Ninebot KickScooter MAX G30D
- Ninebot KickScooter F2
- Segway Ninebot MAX G2
- Ninebot ES2
- Ninebot ES4
Common Causes
- Motor phase wire fault or loose connection
- Controller overheated and tripped a protection fault
- Throttle signal error — throttle stuck or faulty
- Firmware bug in certain versions
- Water damage to the controller board
How to Fix It
-
Power cycle fully.
Turn off, wait 2 minutes, turn back on. This resets the controller and clears transient faults. Test by gently pressing the throttle on flat ground.
-
Let the scooter cool if it was used heavily.
Riding up steep hills continuously causes the motor controller to overheat and trip Error 13. Let the scooter rest for 15–20 minutes in a shaded spot before retrying.
-
Check the throttle for physical damage.
A bent, cracked, or water-damaged throttle sends incorrect signals to the controller. Inspect the handlebar throttle for any visible damage.
-
Update firmware via the Segway-Ninebot app.
Certain firmware versions on older ES and MAX models have known Error 13 bugs. Update to the latest firmware and test.
-
Check for water in the controller housing.
The controller is under the deck. If the scooter was ridden in heavy rain, water may have reached the controller. Allow 48 hours to dry completely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Error 13 dangerous to ride with?
Yes — do not ride. Error 13 can cause sudden motor cut-out while riding, which at speed is a serious safety hazard. Resolve the fault completely before riding again.
