Error 22

Segway-Ninebot Electric Scooter

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Error 22 means the controller lost communication with the Battery Management System. The battery connector may be loose, or the BMS has a fault. Turn off the scooter, wait 30 seconds, and restart.

Affected Models

  • Ninebot KickScooter Max
  • Ninebot KickScooter E2
  • Ninebot KickScooter F2
  • Segway Ninebot ES series

Common Causes

  • Battery connector loose or vibrated free
  • BMS firmware crash
  • Battery temperature too high or too low
  • BMS hardware fault
  • Water damage to battery connector

How to Fix It

  1. Turn off, wait 30 seconds, restart.

A BMS communication glitch often clears with a restart.

  2. Check the battery connection.

On some models, the battery is removable (Max G30). Remove and firmly reseat the battery.

  3. Charge the battery.

A very low battery can cause BMS communication issues. Charge fully and test again.

  4. Update firmware via the Segway-Ninebot app.

BMS communication bugs are sometimes fixed in firmware updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a BMS?

Battery Management System — it monitors each battery cell's voltage, temperature, and current. It protects the battery from overcharging, over-discharging, and overheating.

Can I replace the Ninebot battery?

On some models (Max G30), the battery is removable and replaceable. On others (ES series), it is integrated and replacement is more complex.
