Power Button Not Responding / Won't Turn On
Segway-Ninebot Electric Scooter
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
A Segway-Ninebot power button that does not respond is usually caused by a completely depleted battery or moisture inside the button. Charge the scooter for 1 hour and retry — many scooters will not power on at all below a minimum battery threshold.
Affected Models
- Ninebot KickScooter MAX G30
- Ninebot KickScooter E2
- Ninebot KickScooter F2
- Segway Ninebot MAX G2
- Ninebot KickScooter P65
Common Causes
- Battery completely discharged below the minimum threshold — the controller has no power to respond
- Moisture ingress into the power button housing causing contact failure
- Firmware crash leaving the controller in an unresponsive state
- Power button physically stuck or debris blocking the button travel
- Controller board fault from water damage or impact
How to Fix It
-
Charge the scooter for at least 1 hour first.
If the battery is completely depleted, the scooter controller has no power and cannot respond to any button press. Plug in the charger and wait at least 1 hour before attempting to power on. The charger indicator light should confirm charging is active.
-
Try a long-press on the power button.
Some Segway-Ninebot models require holding the power button for 3–5 seconds to power on, not a short tap. Hold the button firmly for a full 5 seconds. If the scooter has a lock feature enabled, it may need to be unlocked via the app before the button responds.
-
Allow the scooter to dry if it was exposed to moisture.
Moisture inside the power button prevents the contacts from closing when pressed. If the scooter was recently ridden in rain or got wet, do not force repeated button presses. Leave it to dry in a warm, ventilated space for 24 hours, then retry.
-
Clean around the power button.
Grit, dust, or dried mud can accumulate around the button housing and physically block the button from depressing fully. Use a dry toothbrush or compressed air to clear debris from the button edges. Press the button firmly after cleaning to confirm it has free travel.
-
Attempt an app-triggered restart.
If the scooter is partially powered (Bluetooth light still active but power button unresponsive), open the Segway-Ninebot app. If the scooter appears in the app, use the app's restart or reboot function to trigger a software reset. This can resolve controller firmware crashes that leave the button unresponsive.
When to Call a Professional
If the scooter does not respond to any button press or charging indicator after a full charge and drying period, the main controller board may have failed. Bring it to an authorized Segway-Ninebot service centre.
