App Not Connecting / Bluetooth Pairing Failed

Xiaomi Electric Scooter

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Xiaomi scooter app connection failures are usually caused by the scooter still being paired to a previous device in Mi Home, or a stale Bluetooth cache on the phone. Remove the scooter from Mi Home, clear the app cache, and re-add it as a new device.

Affected Models

  • Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4
  • Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter 3
  • Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2
  • Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Essential

Common Causes

  • Scooter still registered to a previous Mi Home account and not properly unlinked
  • Stale Bluetooth cache on the phone causing pairing to fail silently
  • Mi Home app out of date — older versions have Bluetooth pairing bugs
  • Phone Bluetooth in a stuck state from a previous failed connection attempt
  • Scooter not in pairing mode — needs to be power-cycled before re-pairing

How to Fix It

  1. Remove the scooter from the Mi Home app.

In Mi Home, go to the scooter device page, tap the three-dot menu, and select Delete Device or Unbind. This clears the Mi Home account linkage and allows a fresh pairing. If the scooter was purchased second-hand, ask the previous owner to unbind it from their account first.

  2. Power-cycle the scooter.

Turn the scooter off fully, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on. The Bluetooth pairing indicator should begin flashing (check your model's manual for the indicator pattern). A power cycle resets the Bluetooth module and makes the scooter visible for a new pairing.

  3. Clear the Mi Home app cache.

On Android: go to Settings > Apps > Mi Home > Storage > Clear Cache. On iPhone: delete and reinstall the Mi Home app. A corrupted cache stores stale pairing data that blocks new connections even when the scooter is in pairing mode.

  4. Forget the scooter in phone Bluetooth settings.

Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings and find any Xiaomi or Mi Scooter device in the paired devices list. Tap Forget or Unpair the device. Return to Mi Home and tap Add Device to start a fresh pairing from scratch.

  5. Update the Mi Home app.

Open your phone's app store, search for Mi Home, and install any available update. Older Mi Home versions have documented Bluetooth pairing failures with newer Xiaomi scooter firmware. After updating, restart your phone before attempting to connect.

When to Call a Professional

If the scooter does not appear in the Mi Home app's device scan after a factory reset and the Bluetooth light on the scooter is not flashing, the Bluetooth module in the controller may be faulty. Contact Xiaomi support.
