Firmware Update Failed / Update Stuck
Xiaomi Electric Scooter
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Xiaomi scooter firmware updates fail most often because the phone moved out of Bluetooth range mid-update or the scooter battery was too low when the update started. Charge the scooter to at least 50%, stay within 1 metre of the scooter, and retry.
Affected Models
- Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4
- Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro
- Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter 3
- Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2
- Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Essential
Common Causes
- Phone moved out of Bluetooth range during the update, interrupting the data transfer
- Scooter battery too low — firmware update requires a minimum charge level to protect against bricking
- Mi Home app losing internet connectivity mid-download
- Phone screen locking and Bluetooth backgrounding interrupting the transfer
- Corrupted firmware package requiring a fresh download
How to Fix It
-
Charge the scooter to at least 50% before updating.
Xiaomi firmware updates require a minimum battery level — many models will refuse to start the update below 30%. Charge the scooter fully or to at least 50% before attempting the update. Never start a firmware update with a low battery.
-
Keep the phone within 1 metre of the scooter.
Firmware is transferred over Bluetooth — if the phone moves out of range mid-transfer, the update fails and may leave the scooter in an inconsistent state. Place the phone directly next to the scooter and do not move it until the update completes and the scooter restarts.
-
Disable phone screen lock and battery saver during the update.
Go to phone settings and temporarily disable auto-lock and battery saver mode. When the phone screen locks, some Android phones drop the Mi Home app's Bluetooth connection, interrupting the update. Re-enable these settings after the update completes.
-
Force-close Mi Home and clear the download cache.
If the update file appears stuck or frozen, force-close the Mi Home app and clear its cache (Android: Settings > Apps > Mi Home > Storage > Clear Cache). Reopen the app and attempt the firmware update again — Mi Home will re-download a fresh copy of the firmware package.
-
Retry on a stable Wi-Fi connection.
Mi Home downloads the firmware package from Xiaomi's servers before pushing it to the scooter via Bluetooth. Ensure the phone has a stable Wi-Fi connection for the initial download phase. Do the Bluetooth transfer phase with the phone on Wi-Fi (not mobile data) to reduce the chance of a dropped connection mid-transfer.
When to Call a Professional
If a failed update leaves the scooter in a state where it will not power on or respond to any input, do not attempt further resets. Contact Xiaomi support immediately — this is a firmware recovery situation that requires specialized tools.
