Lights Not Working / Front or Brake Light Off

Xiaomi Electric Scooter

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Xiaomi scooter lights not working are usually caused by the light being toggled off via the handlebar button, or a loose wiring connector inside the stem. Press the headlight button to toggle the light on, and check whether a firmware update is available.

Affected Models

  • Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4
  • Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter 3
  • Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Pro 2
  • Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter Essential

Common Causes

  • Front light toggled off using the handlebar button or Mi Home app light setting
  • Wiring connector to the LED module loose inside the stem or deck
  • Firmware bug disabling light control — fixed by update
  • LED module failed from water ingress or physical impact
  • Battery too low — some firmware versions disable lights below a threshold

How to Fix It

  1. Toggle the headlight using the handlebar button.

On most Xiaomi scooters, the headlight is toggled by a single press of the power or mode button. Consult your model's manual for the exact button combination. Also check the Mi Home app — some firmware versions allow the light to be turned off via the app setting.

  2. Check the battery level.

Some Xiaomi scooter firmware versions automatically disable the headlight when the battery falls below 10% to preserve motor power. Charge the scooter to at least 30% and check if the light returns.

  3. Update the scooter firmware.

Open the Mi Home app and check for a firmware update. Several Xiaomi scooter firmware versions have had bugs where the headlight becomes unresponsive to the toggle button. A firmware update typically resolves light control issues without any hardware work.

  4. Inspect the light connector inside the stem.

If the scooter was recently involved in a fall or the stem was folded hard, the wiring connector inside the stem to the front LED module may have come loose. This repair requires opening the stem — if the scooter is under warranty, take it to an authorized service point rather than opening it yourself.

  5. Test the brake light separately.

The brake light is controlled by the brake lever switch, separate from the front light. If the front light works but the rear brake light does not, squeeze the brake lever and observe whether the rear light activates. A non-functioning brake light despite lever activation indicates a faulty brake switch or rear LED module.

When to Call a Professional

If the light toggle works (you can hear a relay click) but no light appears, the LED module itself may have burned out or suffered water damage. Have the light assembly inspected at an authorized Xiaomi service point.
