Console Freezing
Bowflex Treadmill / Elliptical
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Bowflex console frozen or not responding to touch is usually a firmware crash. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a hard reset. If the console restarts and works, monitor whether it freezes again — repeated freezing suggests a firmware update is needed.
Affected Models
- Bowflex BXT116
- Bowflex BXT216
- Bowflex T10
- Bowflex Max Trainer M8
- Bowflex Max Trainer M9
- Bowflex LateralX LX5
Common Causes
- Firmware crash — software lock-up mid-session
- JRNY app connection attempt timing out and locking the UI
- Loose data cable between console and machine base
- Console overheating from direct sunlight exposure
- Memory fill after extended use without a restart
How to Fix It
-
Hard reset the console.
Press and hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds. The screen should go blank and restart. Release the button and wait for the Bowflex startup screen to appear. This clears any software crash state.
-
Power cycle the machine completely.
If the hard reset does not work, turn off the machine using the main power switch at the base of the unit or unplug from the wall. Wait 60 seconds, then power on again. This fully clears the console memory.
-
Check for a firmware update.
Connect to the JRNY app on the Bowflex console and check for a firmware update. Bowflex regularly releases console firmware updates that fix stability and freeze issues. Install any available update over Wi-Fi.
-
Disconnect JRNY app and use standalone mode.
If the console freezes specifically when the JRNY app is running, the issue may be in the app connectivity. Use the console in manual mode (without JRNY) for a session to see if it remains stable. If it does, the JRNY app or server connectivity is causing the crash.
-
Check the console data cable.
A loose data cable between the console and the machine's main control board can cause intermittent freezes. Consult the Bowflex service guide for your model to locate the console cable connection. Ensure all connectors are firmly seated.
When to Call a Professional
If the console freezes every session despite firmware updates, the main console board may have a hardware fault. Contact Bowflex support for a replacement console.
