Built-In Fan Not Working

Bowflex Fitness Equipment

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Bowflex built-in fan not working is usually caused by the fan speed being set to zero or the fan control button not being pressed. On most Bowflex consoles, the fan is off by default — press the Fan button or increase the fan speed from the console.

Affected Models

  • Bowflex BXT216
  • Bowflex BXT116
  • Bowflex T22 Treadmill
  • Bowflex Velocore Bike
  • Bowflex Max Trainer M9

Common Causes

  • Fan speed set to zero on the console — fan must be manually activated
  • Fan speed button not working — console button stuck or unresponsive
  • Debris blocking the fan blade — dust buildup preventing rotation
  • Internal wiring connection to the fan motor loose or disconnected
  • Fan motor failed after extended use

How to Fix It

  1. Set the fan speed from the console.

On the Bowflex console, find the Fan button or fan speed control (usually a + / - button labeled Fan or with a wind symbol). Press the + button to increase the fan speed — the fan starts at zero and must be turned on each session. The fan does not turn on automatically when you start your workout — it is a separate control.

  2. Check for obstructions in the fan housing.

Turn off and unplug the machine. Look into the fan housing (usually at the front of the console or handlebars) for accumulated dust, lint, or debris blocking the fan blade. Use compressed air or a vacuum to clear the fan inlet — a blocked fan blade can appear broken when it is simply stalled.

  3. Try spinning the fan blade manually.

With the machine unplugged, try to gently spin the fan blade with a finger or a pencil through the fan grill. If the blade does not spin freely and feels stuck, debris or a foreign object is jamming it — clear the obstruction. If the blade spins freely but the fan does not run when powered on and set to speed 1, the motor or wiring has failed.

  4. Power cycle the machine.

Turn the machine off using the power switch, unplug it from the wall, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart. A console firmware freeze can prevent fan commands from reaching the fan motor. After restarting, try the fan speed control again.

  5. Check the console wiring harness.

If your Bowflex is under warranty, do not open the console housing yourself — contact Bowflex support for warranty service. If out of warranty, the fan motor connects to the console via a wiring harness that can loosen over time from vibration. Bowflex support can provide a replacement fan assembly and instructions for your specific model.

When to Call a Professional

If the fan blade is clear of debris and the console fan controls show a speed above zero but the fan does not spin, the fan motor or console control board wiring has likely failed. Contact Bowflex support.
